The INNOVATE LAB is a place where learning meets the real world. We use design thinking to work on solving student and community problems through project-based learning, working with a wide variety of skills, technologies, and in and out of school experts.

Innovation in education inspires teachers and students to explore, research and use all the tools to discover and make something new. It involves a different way of looking at problems and solving them. These courses address community needs.

Engineering and Innovation encompasses four courses:

Design Studies 10, 20 and 30 (5 credits each)
Students learn about the creative process from conception through to development in architecture, industrial design, engineering, landscaping and construction. Students use 3-D printers, CNC routers, lasers and other tools.

Environmental Stewardship 10, 20 and 30 (5 credits each)
Explore agricultural technology, address local and global environmental issues and gain an appreciation of the natural word. Students complete projects with a focus on growing food for school as well as community initiatives. Hands-on projects help students develop an understanding and appreciation of local diversity.

Manufacturing 10, 20 and 30 (5 credits each)
This class is a combination of manufacturing, designing and making things using computers, 3-D printers and woodworking tools. Some project examples include custom speakers, drama props and food planters. This course also has an element of addressing community needs, as some of the problems and projects we approach will come from outside the classroom.

Robotics 10, 20 and 30 (5 credits each)
Students build and use robots. Students learn about analogue and digital circuitry using motors, lights, sensors and a wide variety of other components.
